CleanTech Corridor identified in North San Diego County

North San Diego County is getting a boost from the Chamber of Commerce group representing the region on efforts to formally establish a "CleanTech Corridor" to attract manufacturers. The corridor would extend along Interstate 15 from Rancho Bernardo to Escondido, and along Highway 78 from the north coastal cities to San Marcos and inland. The decision to form a working group of business leaders to chase after environmentally friendly manufacturers began a few months ago, under the leadership of the San Diego North Chamber of Commerce, to advocate environmentally efficient technologies. Debra Rosen, president and chief executive of the chamber, said her group recently took the wraps off a website, sdncc.com/cleantech, that identifies companies and locations for businesses along the corridor ---- including empty buildings and available land. "We have so much land, and with land, that is perfect for solar," Rosen said. "People don't know this (corridor for manufacturing) is up here," she said. "This is another option to think about." The clean technology corridor in North County is designed to work with other organizations, including the larger CleanTECH San Diego, a nonprofit formed in 2007 that tries to attract environmentally friendly businesses to the area and holds a voluminous database identifying firms already here. The region boasts many clean-technology advocacy and support groups, such as The San Diego Sustainability Alliance and the California Center for Sustainable Energy.
